What do I consider when I’m trying to evaluate a contractor?
There are many important questions to ask when selecting a contractor.
You’ll want to check on licensing (www.cslb.ca.gov) and insurance. Ask for referrals and don’t hesitate to call customer references. Expect a home evaluation and obtain a written estimate complete with costs, model numbers and warranty information. Compare bids on costs, energy efficiencies and warranties. Ask questions when the estimates you receive are considerably different—be sure you know what’s included.
